Mason joined Recursion in 2015 and has grown with the company, taking on roles of increasing significance until he was promoted to chief technology officer in 2018. In late 2018, Mason stepped into becoming Recursion’s first chief product officer where he now leads the cross-disciplinary efforts to develop and advance the technological and scientific capabilities of Recursion’s drug discovery engine.
Mason earned his master’s degree in mathematics from Brigham Young University, where he developed new machine learning approaches to identify individuals at risk for developing chronic kidney disease. After an internship with the NSA and before Recursion, Mason joined a small team of data scientists at Red Brain Labs, and later Savvysherpa, to develop algorithms to mine unstructured medical records, analyze human behavior through cell phone logs and simulate complex call centers. Apart from work, he loves spending time with his wife and three daughters.
