Yolanda Chong named as a finalist for the Women Tech Awards
The Women Tech Council (WTC) of Utah announced that Dr. Yolanda Chong, the vice president of innovation and enabling biology at Recursion Pharmaceuticals, is a finalist for the tenth annual Women Tech Awards, a prestigious honor recognizing technology-focused women who are driving innovation and inspiring the technology community.
Dr. Chong has been honored because of her work as a pioneer in developing new methods to find treatments for patients with a wide variety of illnesses. Dr. Chong’s work seeks to leverage new technologies like high-dimensional phenotyping, computer vision and artificial intelligence to enable the scientists at Recursion to use images of human cells to understand biology as a system and to identify potential mechanisms of treatment faster and in a less biased way than using traditional techniques. Dr. Chong joined Recursion Pharmaceuticals earlier this year from Janssen, the pharmaceutical arm of J&J, to more fully apply her skills and passion for advancing drug discovery at a record pace.
“My hope is to inspire scientists that want to push boundaries and think out of the box, when developing treatments for patients,” said Dr. Chong. “New technologies are out there that can revolutionize our approach to developing therapies and we need more scientists that are willing to challenge the status quo and think differently about how drug discovery can be done.”
"We are privileged to have Yolanda on our team. She is a leader and role model for all young scientists entering this field and we are proud to have her leading the innovation and enabling biology team at Recursion" said Chris Gibson, CEO of Recursion Pharmaceuticals. “She has inspired her team with her drive and commitment, supporting our goal of 100 new treatments by 2025.”
Over the past ten years, the Women Tech Awards have named over 160 finalists and 20 student finalists, creating a platform to make their contributions, innovations, and leadership recognized across the technology industry. Through the visibility brought by these awards, these women have been the inspiration for other women and high school girls pursuing careers in STEM fields. Winners will be announced on October 27, 2017, during the awards luncheon at the Grand America Hotel.
