Gaelle Mercenne, PhD
Research Scientist II
Gaelle earned her PhD in Strasbourg, France, where she studied how HIV-1 counteracts the restriction factor APOBEC3G. Although she originally hails from the rainy plains of Normandy, in 2010, she found a love for and home within the dusty desert heat of Utah. During her postdoc in the Sundquist lab (University of Utah), she studied how HIV-1 hijacks the host proteins to replicate. When she isn’t busy with cells, pipettes, and microscopes, she enjoys perfecting the chemicals in her home aquarium, reviewing the findings of Aperture Laboratories, and binge-watching science fiction..
